THANKS FOR EVERYONE'S SUPPORT - Our chocolate sale was very successful thanks to your efforts we sold about $6,400.  Also, we made about $2.000.00 during our fall Book Fair!  The money we earned will be used to purchase books for our 4th & 5th grade students, so that they can receive books during our R.I.F. distribution.  Reading is Fundamental (R.I.F.), only supports kindergarten through third grade students.

If you have books that your child has out grown, you may donate them and at our next R.I.F. distribution they will be handed out as a second, slightly used book.  See Ms. Nazario if you have any questions.

STUDENT SAFETY – Parents, DO NOT DROP OFF YOUR CHILD IN THE MIDDLE OF THE

STREET AND DO NOT DOUBLE PARK TO DROP OFF YOUR CHILD.  This is very dangerous and someone could get hurt.  Also, pay attention and drive slowly in front of the school.  Some of our students are small and quick and may dart out into the street.  Please, do not use the school drive ways to turn around and do not park in the staff lot.  We must all work together to keep ALL of the children safe.

EMERGENCIES - In anticipation of a natural disaster or emergency, the district is implementing a district communication system thru its TV station, KLCS-TV (channel 58) (channel 15 in Tujunga).  During a district wide emergency, KLCS will be an additional information source for parents.

Both home and school need to have well established plans in case of emergencies like fire, flood or earthquake.  Plainview has emergency plans in place.  In the event of an earthquake, during school hours, the children are ordered to "drop" into a crouched position under a table for protection.  When the earth motion has stopped, the classes are evacuated on to the yard.  In the event of a fire, the classes are evacuated on to the yard.  Once on the yard, attendance is taken and any unaccounted for children or staff are searched for and then accounted for.  In the event of a major earthquake, or fire, the children will remain on the yard until an adult, who is listed on the school emergency card signs for their release.  We also have a “Lockdown Procedure”, which keeps children and staff indoors and out of harm’s way, until it is safe to be outside.  PLEASE KEEP YOUR CHILD’S EMERGENCY CARD UP TO DATE WITH PHONE NUMBERS AND AUTHORIZED PEOPLE WHO CAN PICK THEM UP.  REMEMBER THAT DURING AN EMERGENCY, YOU MUST PICK UP YOUR CHILD AT THE BACK GATE ON JAYSEEL STREET.

If you do not have emergency plans for your home, please make some.  You should practice fire drills and earthquake drills.  In your plans be sure to have arrangements with an adult to pick up your child or children if you work a great distance from home or have limited transportation.  Remember, the phones may not be usable, freeways and streets might be blocked, and it may take you sometime to get home.

VANDALISM- Vandalism is a major concern in our school district.  Here at Plainview, we have been fortunate for only a few incidents have occurred.  If you see any disturbances during the hours we are closed, please call school POLICE (213) 625-6631.

Keeping our school safe is everyone's responsibility.  PLEASE HELP!!!

ATTENDANCE IS IMPORTANT- Please send a note when your child is absent and only keep children home from school for illness.  When students are not in school, they must make up class work missed at school.  Children with good attendance also perform better in school.  Perfect attendance is rewarded monthly at our award’s assembly.

CONSIDERATION OF OUR NEIGHBORS – When you are dropping off or picking up your child on Plainview Avenue, please do not block the neighbors’ driveways.  The neighbors have made it very clear that they will call Parking Enforcement to alleviate the problem.   Also, parents who pick up students on Jayseel Street, please do not honk your horn to signal your child to your car.  The honking becomes a nuisance for the neighbors.  Please have your child stay on the playground near the fence to wait for your arrival.  After school, do not drive down the service road to pick up your child.  You may park in the parking lot, and walk down to pick-up your child.  Thank you for your cooperation in advance.

The staff of Plainview Academic Charter Academy wishes everyone a restful and Happy Thanksgiving Break.
