AWARDS ASSEMBLY – The Awards Assembly will be on Friday, March 1, 2019.  K & 1st grade will be at 8:35 AM, 2nd & 3rd grade will be at 9:15, 4th & 5th grade will be at 9:50 AM.

 

March 4, 2019 –READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY AND Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss – Students will participate in fun activities in honor of Dr. Seuss.

 

READING IS FUNDAMENTAL – In honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, our R.I.F. book distribution will be on Monday, March 4, 2019 in the Library.  All students will receive a new book and a gently used book for their home library.  Our theme is Dr. Seuss and you and your child should have created book marks. 

If you have books that your child has outgrown, you can donate them in the office.  They will be given out to students as their gently used book. 

 

Pennies For Patients - Our annual campaign will begin on Monday, March 4, 2019 and end on Friday, March 15, 2019.  Detailed information will  be sent home.

 

O.L.S.A.T. – The OLSAT-8 (Otis-Lennon School Ability Test, Eighth Edition) is a nationally standardized, norm-referenced, group administered measure of verbal and non-verbal school abilities given to all second grade students. It is a multiple choice test that lasts approximately 75 minutes. 

 

ALL second graders will be tested for the purpose of identification as gifted in the High Achievement Category.  Testing will take place in their classroom on Thursday, March 7, 2019.

 

GOVERNANCE & SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL

Please join us on March 7, 2019 at 2:40 pm in the Library.  The topics will include our Needs Assessment, SPSA (School Plan for Student Success) and LCAP (Local Control and Accountability Plan). 

 

iReady Recognition Awards – All students who were on grade level in their middle of the year iReady assessment will receive recognition, as well as students who made at least a 15 point gain.  The ceremony will be in the Quad, on March 8, 2018 at 8:10 am. 

 

DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME BEGINS

On Sunday, March 10, 2019, set your clocks one hour forward.  Please remember to set your clocks so that on Monday, March 11, 2019, your child will not be tardy.

 

STARRY NIGHT- Get your pajamas on and join us on the big yard for star gazing.  Starry night will be on Friday, 3-15-2019, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

 

FIFTH GRADE ARCADE – The fifth grade will be hosting an arcade afternoon on Thursday, March 21, 2019 from 3:00 to 4:00.  It will be in the Quad and the cost is $5.00.

 

P.T.A. MEETING – Please join us for our monthly P.T.A. meeting on Wednesday, March 27th, in the auditorium at 2:40 pm.

SCHOOL-WIDE FIELD TRIP- This year we are off to the L.A. Zoo on Friday, March 29, 2019.

 

LAUSD CHARTER DIVISION OVERSITE VISIT – Alex from the Charter office was on campus on Friday, 2-22-2019 from 8 to 2 to review our documentation and progress of our school.  He was very pleased with his classroom visits and all the work our students have on display.  As always, we were in compliance with our charter.

 

GLASSES

If your child is missing their glasses, please come into the office and check.  We have about 20 pairs of unclaimed eyes glasses.

REMINDERS

*It is L.A.U.S.D. policy that the school does not give out any personal information (including addresses, phone numbers, & e-mail addresses) of any of our staff members because of privacy issues.  However, you may always contact any staff members through our school phone number (818) 353-1730 or their LAUSD e-mail account.

 

*Please do not pull into the school driveway or parking lot to drop off your child.  It is dangerous for your child and you block traffic, and you may cause an accident.

Please, do not park in the handicap space or the area with blue lines, which is access for the handicap space.  You will receive a ticket for blocking disabled persons’ access.  You must have Handicap authorization otherwise it is a $371 parking ticket.

Please, do not park or drive down the service road.  Access is limited to deliveries and staff parking.   

 

Future Dates of Importance

 

Cesar Chavez Day is Monday, April 1st and school will be closed. 

Awards Assembly for April is Friday, April 5, 2019

Spring Book Fair will be Tuesday, April 23rd until Tuesday, April 30, 2019.    

SPRING FLING and BREAK – Spring Fling will be on Friday, April 12 at 1:00 with school dismissal at 1:54 pm.

Spring Break is Monday, April 15 until Friday, April 19. 

Kindergarten Orientation – There will be an orientation on April 26th at 5:00 pm for incoming kindergarten students.  The meeting will take place in the auditorium and will last about 1 hour.  

Children’s Health Expo will be on Tuesday, April 9, 2019.  The Children’s Health Expo will explain one of the eight natural laws of health at each of the Stations: Nutrition, Air, Sunshine, Exercise, Rest, Temperance, Water and Trust.  The children will take home information on health and their activity sheet.
